STATEMENT: Brian Kapernekas

My current paintings and constructions are artifacts tethered to a personal mythology and history that has become entangled within the cultural iconography and folklore of the everyday. This transformations between direct observations and fictions, facts and myths extends itself to the process of painting within the material of paint, surface and pictorial space. Alongside this, the subject informs the process just as much as the process becoming the subject. I liken this process similar to a folklorist where the boundaries between facts and myths shift together to form a dialogue that is personal and at the same time constructed.
